I explored how an embodied interactive play mat for toy cars influences imaginative play. The functional mat contains RFID tags, and the toy car used by the child includes an RFID reader. The car plays sounds and triggers missions at different locations on the mat--for example, bird sounds near trees, or prompting the child to drive to the lake when passing a character who wants to go swimming.
I built the prototype using the hardware and programming environment Arduino, a speaker and an RFID reader.
