For SVT Barn I have developed a coloring book that works well on their responsive website. The coloring book works on smartphones, iPads and on regular computers. Editors adds pictures among which children selects and colors, or add different interactive stamps to. To make it easy for editors to create and administrate colorings books, I have designed and developed a flexible admin system.
Contributed in concept design and user tests. I made all programming in HTML 5, canvas and JavaScript with the library KineticJS. I did testing on loads of devices. The adminsystem that is run in the browser was coded with the Javascript MVC framework Backbone.
Concept design together with Project owner and UX designer from SVT. Graphical design together with graphic designer from SVT. Contributed in user testing together with UX designer from SVT, with children that visited SVT. The user tests provided a deeper undestanding about how children actively create meaning in their play and coloring. An example was when what I understood as a bug was understood as 'magic' by a kid.
Here is shown how the coloring book has been used on SVT Barn. Kids can draw, colorize, and stamp interactive stamps etc.
The goal has been to make coloring books easy to create and administrate. New pictures are added by vectorizing an ordinary bitmap picture with lineart. This is easily done with a click in Illustrator (the function live-paint). SVG pictures are then added to the specific coloring book. Editors can define available colors to use in a coloring book, both general colors for the whole coloring book and colors specific for one picture. In a similar manner the editor can also add animated stamps, such as rotating screws and bolts in a coloring book for the show Labyrint, or flying birds and bees for another coloring book. With insight in how the admininstrators work, I designed and created a flexible admin system used in order to handle the different functions in the coloring books.
Here you can try a simpler version of the one used on SVT Barn. Here SVG is used insted of Canvas in the background. Click on the green button with a left-arrow in order to find more pictures to paint :)
